"It has been a busy day for presidential statements divorced from reality."
Anchor Scott Pelley greeted "CBS Evening News" viewers with that line Monday night.
Pelley opened the show standing in front of a photo of President Trump which bore the words "Reality Check."
Today, President Trump told a U.S. military audience that there have been terrorist attacks that one knows about because the media choose not to report them," said Pelley.
Trump told military leaders at CENTCOM Monday that terror attacks are being under-reported by the media.
"It's gotten to a point where it’s not even being reported. And in many cases the very, very dishonest press doesn't want to report it. They have their reasons, and you understand that," he added.
Trump targeted the New York Times in a tweet over the weekend after the paper reported on the inner workings of the new administration.
The headline of the piece was: "Trump and Staff Rethink Tactics After Stumbles."
Jenna Lee discussed the media's coverage of the Trump administration with Juan Williams and Daniel Henninger of the Wall Street Journal.
Williams said Trump is the "protagonist" in his fight with the media and is trying to demonize reporters.
Henninger said the press must "toughen up" and focus on the "substance of the news" rather than constantly talking about Trump's tweets.
