The media pundits are missing the biggest point: The executive order was all drama, achieving nothing. The seven countries he picked had already been identified as threats and visa-holders "extreme vetted" by Obama's policy action so they were the LEAST likely to be sending us terrorists with visas now.
It's like Trump said, "Let's do what Obama did and sell it as our idea." And to make sure we all noticed what a GREAT thing he was doing to "make us safer," he tacked on the temporary travel ban without advance notice to travelers, which was sure to cause chaos, outrage and 24/7 media coverage and his Fox-fed supporters in flyover country will think he's done something BIG and macho that "weak" Obama would never have done.
There was no reason whatever to ban travel in order to review and strengthen existing vetting protocols. He could have issued a simple directive to immigration and homeland security bureaucrats to do that. There was no emergency, no immediate threat that he "saved" us from. Thank goodness at least the federal court judges saw through his self-serving made-for-TV movie script.
