Post# of 51151
A convicted drug dealer, who had his life sentence commuted by President Barack Obama, is back in jail after being busted with two pounds of cocaine.
In 1990, Robert Martinez-Gil was sentenced to life in prison for cocaine and heroin distribution conspiracy. He had his sentence commuted by Obama in 2015 after petitioning for a second chance.
Federal court records show that Martinez-Gil purchased the cocaine last week hours after meeting with a federal probation officer. He had been under surveillance after authorities became aware he had become involved in illegal drugs.
Following an exchange in a parking lot, Martinez-Gil led police on a high-speed chase through San Antonio. He eventually collided with another vehicle and was caught by officers after attempting to flee on foot.
He has been charged with possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine and faces up to 40 years in prison.
While in office, Obama commuted the sentences of 1,715 prisoners -- the most of any president.
