Feeling socially stigmatized, over 80 percent of people with psoriasis report it negatively impacts the quality of their life. On March 17, 2016, the FDA held a public meeting to solicit feedback from people suffering from psoriasis on how to better manage this debilitating, chronic skin condition.
A number of pharmaceutical companies recently, and in years past, have initiated highly visible public awareness campaigns to help lessen the social stigma surrounding psoriasis. Celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, LeAnn Rimes, Jon Lovitz, John Updike and Phil Mickelson, have also spoken publicly about personal challenges of living with the condition.
Cellceutix is hopeful that one day Prurisol, its novel oral psoriasis treatment in mid-stage clinical testing utilizing the advantages of the FDA’s 505(b)(2) development approach, will have a significant role in treating this serious skin condition that results in so many people being shunned, and worse, discriminated against. The need for new psoriasis treatments is considerable, as a substantial number of sufferers—approximately 1 in 5—do not respond to current therapies according to a recent study of over 2,600 psoriasis patients in Sweden.
