White House National Security Adviser Michael Flynn issued a warning to Iran this afternoon, saying the administration is "officially putting Iran on notice" after Sunday's missile test-launch.
Flynn was referring to a "provocative" ballistic missile test on Sunday by Tehran, which he said was carried out in defiance of a U.N. Security Council resolution.
"The Trump administration condemns such actions by Iran that undermine security, prosperity and stability throughout and beyond the Middle East and which place American lives at risk," said Flynn.
He also pointed to an attack Monday by Iran-supported Houthi militants on a Saudi vessel off the coast of Yemen.
U.S. defense analysts later told Fox News that the attackers may have believed they were targeting a U.S. ship.
Flynn said Iran is "feeling emboldened" after eight years of "weak and ineffective" policies by the Obama administration.
He said the Obama administration "failed to respond adequately" to weapons transfers, support for terrorism and other violations of international norms by Iran.
Iranian officials confirmed the test-launch, but said it was not a violation of the 2015 Security Council resolution.
