CLEVELAND, Jan. 26, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Athersys, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATHX ) (“Athersys”) announced today that it intends to offer for sale shares of its common stock, par value $0.001 per share (“Common Stock”), in an underwritten public offering pursuant to its effective shelf registration statement (Registration No. 333-194538) (the “Registration Statement”) previously filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”), and all of the shares of Common Stock offered for sale in the public offering will be sold by Athersys. William Blair & Company, L.L.C. is acting as sole book-running manager and Needham & Company, LLC is acting as lead manager for the offering. In addition, Athersys expects to grant the underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional 15% of the shares of Common Stock offered in the public offering.
