President Donald Trump signed five more executive orders this morning and said that his Supreme Court nominee will be announced next week.
The first order was on the construction of the Keystone Pipeline, "subject to a renegotiation of terms by us."
Trump said "we'll see if we can get that pipeline built" and create 28,000 construction jobs. The second order was on construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, "again subject to terms and conditions to be negotiated by us."
Former President Barack Obama rejected the Keystone Pipeline in Nov. 2015 after years of opposition by environmental groups.
Trump's third order directs the Commerce Department to maximize the use of U.S. steel in constructing the pipes for these projects.
"We will build our own pipelines. We will build our own pipes. ... Like we used to in the old days," he said.
Order #4 directed the Commerce Department to streamline the "incredibly cumbersome" process of obtaining permits for manufacturing projects.
"The regulatory process in this country has become a tangled-up mess and very unfair to people. ... That's a big one."
The last order was to "expedite environmental reviews and approvals" for key infrastructure projects.
"We can't be in an environmental [review] process for 15 years if a bridge is going to be falling down or if a highway is crumbling," said Trump
