The release follows a rights deal with Hong Kong-based sales agency Distribution Workshop. Production was through the DeTao Group and Treasure Tree Studios.
Written and directed by VFX veteran Sing Choong Foo (“Spider-Man,” “Beowulf”), the film follows the journey of a young girl who must join forces with the animals of the Chinese zodiac to find a dragon who has gone missing.
“The animation quality is comparable with the best of the major studios, and we are confident that American audiences will respond strongly to this film,” said Eric Parkinson, CEO of Hannover House.
The original film, which counted Zhang Ziyi and Wang Leehom among the voice cast, was released in China in November year. The U.S. version will be voiced in both Los Angeles and in Fayetteville, Arkansas, under a production partnership with Crisp Recording and Filmworks.
