Jorma Eloranta, Chair of the Board of Directors of Neste, awarded Chair of the Year

Today, 12 January, Jorma Eloranta, Chair of the Board of Directors of Neste Corporation, was recognized as the 2016 Chair of the Year at an event held by the Finnish Foundation for Share Promotion. The Chair of the Year is a Nordic recognition awarded annually to the best Chair of the Board of Directors of a listed company in Nordic countries. Later in spring, the Nordic Chair of the Year will be named from among national winners.

Jorma Eloranta was awarded especially for his strong financial merits as the Chair of Neste's Board of Directors. The jury also recognized Eloranta for his thorough understanding of what it takes to work in a Board of Directors and his ability to see the big picture, without forgetting the details. Neste's Board of Directors works well as a group with a culture of dialogue. It has specifically productive connections to the company's management.

"The role of the Chair is decisive when it comes to the atmosphere within the Board and between the Board and management. In a good Board, the atmosphere is open and mutually respectful. Meetings are happy events, and anecdotes and funny incidents produce laughter, even though serious matters are being handled responsibly," says Eloranta.

Jorma Eloranta was elected Chair of Neste's Board of Directors in 2012. In addition to Neste, Eloranta is the Chair of the Boards of Directors of Suominen and Uponor, the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Stora Enso, and a member of the Board of Directors of Cargotec. He has acted as the Chair of different Boards for nearly 40 years.

The Finnish jury of the 2016 Chair of the Year comprised Sari Lounasmeri (Chair), CEO of the Finnish Foundation for Share Promotion; Björn Wahlroos , 2015 Chair of the Year and Chair of the Boards of Directors of Sampo, Nordea and UPM; Petteri Walldén , 2011 Chair of the Year and Chair of the Board of Directors of Nokian Tyres; Jannica Fagerholm , Managing Director of Signe and Ane Gyllenberg Foundation; Eero Heliövaara , Director General of the Government Ownership Steering Department; and Timo Ritakallio , President and CEO of Ilmarinen. Partners of the Chair of the Year are KPMG, Alumni Harvey Nash and Merilampi Attorneys.
