He will eventually be instrumental in developing partnerships but his dermatological expertise is precisely what what was needed to guide Prurisol through its current phase of development eventually leading to a partnership with BP who will no doubt prefer to have input (think 2b) if not control over the final approval process in order to influence the FDA approved label and maximize marketing advantage. Dr. B's expertise is precisely what was needed to shepard P to approval or hand it off to BP.
What is less obvious but interesting is the overlap between the epithelium (external skin) and the endothelium or mucosa (internal skin) which is a membrane that lines various cavities in the body including the innermost layer of the gastrointestinal tract (think UP, colitis) and surrounds internal organs. It consists of one or more layers of epithelial cells overlying a layer of loose connective tissue. It is of ectodermal origin and is continuous with the skin at various body openings such as the eyes, ears, inside the nose, inside the mouth, lip, the urethral opening and the anus, frenulum of tongue. These 'skins' serve roughly the same functions in that one protects against intrusion and the other extrusion. Thus IMO Dr. B is precisely the right expert to guide the development of both P and B to multiple successful partnerships should the trials continue as they have to date
