SPRING HOPE, NC--(Marketwired - Jan 4, 2017) - As festive gatherings and yuletide celebrations come to an end, Hemp, Inc. (OTC PINK: HEMP) executives are looking forward to 2017, especially since there were transformative strides made within the industrial hemp industry in 2016. And what better way for the industrial hemp industry to ring in the New Year than with Rhode Island's "Hemp Growth Act"? The "game changing" Act went into effect on January 1, 2017. Laws governing industrial hemp have now evolved in a total of 33 states (Alabama, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia).

Rhode Island's Hemp Growth Act, which took effect January 1, 2017, was originally written so that members of the Narragansett Indian Tribe could grow hemp. However, lawmakers later broadened the language to allow any licensed grower. Under the "Hemp Growth Act" individuals will be allowed to obtain a state license to cultivate hemp for things such as clothing, food or other commercial products. With the newly implemented Act, hemp is now treated as "an agricultural product that may be legally produced, possessed, distributed and commercially traded. The Department of Business Regulation will be responsible for establishing rules and regulations for the licensing and regulation of hemp growers and processors. The Department is also authorized to certify any higher educational institution in Rhode Island to grow or handle or assist in growing or handling industrial hemp for the purpose of agricultural or academic research." The U.S. market for hemp is around $600 million per year with over 25,000 uses including food, cosmetics, plastics and bio-fuel. The U.S. is currently the world's top importer of hemp fiber for various products. China and Canada are the top two exporters in the world. Even so, 2017 is definitely brimming with good things to come for the U.S. industrial hemp industry.

Additionally, according to the New Hampshire General Court website, House Bill 151 has been pre-filed for the 2017 legislature. It is set to be introduced on January 4, 2017 and referred to the House's Environmental and Agricultural Committee. This bill "would remove the state ban on industrial hemp, setting the stage to nullify federal prohibition on the plant in practice," according to the Tenth Amendment Center Blog. "The legislation would simply remove industrial hemp from the state's list of controlled substances. This would open the door for a full-scale commercial hemp market in the state by treating it as any other crop for farming."

Perlowin commented, "It would be ground breaking for our industry if New Hampshire passes House Bill 151. It behooves us to repeat this historical ground breaking industrial hemp news."

Perlowin continued, "This could easily start a trend extending all the way up to the federal level to de-schedule hemp entirely since it makes absolutely no sense that industrial hemp is considered a drug in the first place, any more than corn, wheat, cotton or oats. This creates an enormous resurgence for farmers all over America to be able to grow industrial hemp, unburdened. What does that mean for Hemp, Inc.? Well, we have the largest multi-purpose industrial hemp processing facility in North America which means business will increase tremendously. The hemp has to be processed and we have the capacity to process it on a large scale. The infrastructure is already in place."

The Tenth Amendment Center article went on to state, "By ending state prohibition, residents in New Hampshire would have an open door to start industrial hemp farming should they be willing to risk violating ongoing federal prohibition... HB151 would simply ignore federal prohibition and authorize commercial farming and production in New Hampshire anyway."

According to VoteHemp.com's 2016 Hemp Legislation Map, the newest hemp states are: Florida with HB 307 on 3/28/16; Alabama with HB 393 on 5/10/16; Pennsylvania with HB 967 on 7/20/16; and, Rhode Island with HB 8232 on 7/18/16. It also mentioned that between January and December, 2016, "nearly 4,000 advocates took action 17,200 times compared to a little over 10,000 actions in 2015." This was recorded by Vote Hemp's advocacy database.

This spring, Hemp, Inc.'s wholly owned subsidiary, Industrial Hemp Manufacturing, LLC (IHM) in Spring Hope, North Carolina is preparing to grow 50 acres of industrial hemp. According to executives, however, the spring planting of industrial hemp hinges on the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Commission (NCIHC) establishing the rules and regulations for the state's agriculture program to grow or cultivate industrial hemp. The Commission convened before the new year on December 22, 2016 to institute the rules and regulations to ensure farmers will be able to plant hemp in time for spring. With more families "going green," farmers see more lucrative opportunity in the environmentally sustainable hemp crop than with any other crop.

Hemp, Inc. is excited at the possibility of growing their own 50 acres of hemp in the spring next to their 70,000 square foot industrial hemp processing plant. A tour of this hemp grow, as well as a tour of the facility, will be part of the monthly two-day seminars being offered through The Hemp University. Hemp, Inc. (OTC PINK: HEMP) is also partnering with land owners and farmers across North Carolina to grow hemp. Hemp, Inc.'s wholly owned subsidiary, Industrial Hemp Manufacturing, LLC already has a signed an agreement to purchase 1,500 acres of hemp from BioRegen Innovation Cooperative.

BioRegen Innovations Cooperative (BioRegen) is a cooperative enterprise of farmers, industry experts and seed breeders. BioRegen seeks to build bio regenerative communities throughout the state of North Carolina. Industrial Hemp Manufacturing, LLC, according to the Letter of Intent (LOI), will purchase the raw hemp that is to be harvested from BioRegen's land in eastern North Carolina, approximately seventy-five miles from Hemp, Inc.'s industrial hemp processing facility in Spring Hope, North Carolina.

"We're in the final stages of bringing our multi-purpose industrial hemp processing facility in North Carolina online and the portion of our mill should be operational mid-January," said David Schmitt, COO of Hemp, Inc.'s Industrial Hemp Manufacturing, LLC. Schmitt is also on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Association (NCIHA). The NCIHA was the organization that tirelessly petitioned to create the North Carolina hemp bill and helped to get it passed and helped with the final ratified bill that is now law in North Carolina. According to Schmitt, the company plans to purchase an additional 1,500 acres of hemp with other North Carolina farmers thus bringing the total hemp acreage to over 3,000 acres and possibly more.

VANCOUVER, Dec. 20, 2016 /CNW/ - Hempco Food and Fiber Inc. (TSXV: HEMP) ("Hempco®" is pleased to announce the audited financial results for the year ended August 31, 2016. On December 15, 2016 the Board of Directors approved the full year 2016 consolidated financial statements.

Charles Holmes, CEO, comments, "Our 2016 fiscal year was very productive. We expanded our production capacity in Manitoba and are further expanding in a new Alberta location to keep up with increased bulk sales demands from a new relationship with our Korean customer Seoulutions Corp. and other key US and EU customers. We launched our PLANETHEMP brand retail line of CPG products which have received healthy foods industry recognition."

2016 Highlights

Revenue for the year ended August 31, 2016 is $5.24 million, an increase of 29.6% over 2015
Gross Profit for the year is $1.54 million, an increase of 35.5% over 2015

Financial Results:

Gross revenues for the year ended August 31, 2016 totaled $5,240,639 as compared to $4,043,897 for the year ended August 31, 2015. The increase in sales was 29.6% and most of this increase occurred after the Company's successful listing on the TSX Venture Exchange in April 2016. We publish monthly sales reports that have showed strong month to month increases in sales since. The net loss for the year was roughly $3.24 million, however this loss includes a one‐time non-cash expense of $1,866,146 that recognizes the reverse takeover of the public shell and a non-cash expense of $1,014,928 for stock based compensation. In addition to these factors, the Company expended significant funds on building the brand and infrastructure that will support future sales. Cash on hand as of August 31, 2016 was $1,454,047 and net working capital of $2,323,954. We believe this is sufficient cash to finance the Company and its growth strategy over the next year.

Glut of Chinese Hemp Nut on Korean Market – Produces Quality Concerns

Charles Holmes comments on the November dip in sales:

"Hempco® sales to Korea went on hold for 3 weeks when tons of Chinese hulled hemp seed flooded the Korean market. Koreans are very quality conscious and cautious of Chinese products consumption. Hulled hemp seed "hearts" are made by shattering the hulls and separating the yellowish white meats inside from the shells and any foreign matter that may have come off the fields. Hempco® product specs are 99.9% clean from the farmer to our facility, and up to 10 parts foreign matter (wheat and/or other grains / seeds, chaff etc.) and average 10 hemp seed shells. Hemp seed meats have a "skin" or "pericarp" around them much like a peanut or sunflower seed which is dark green and VERY nutritious.  Depending on time of year and type of seed and processing variables, there can sometimes be more than normal amounts of pericarp mixed with the whitish hulled hemp seed nut. Korean customers have associated this "dark green skin" as lower quality and/or of inferior Chinese product origin and are questioning the quality of Hempco® product. Hempco® staff has been helping educate the Korean customers and re-affirm the quality specs and standards."

Hempco® has experienced more than 100% increase in sales this quarter vs the same quarter last year. Despite this increase over last year, it should be understood that there is a seasonal nature to the business. Sales traditionally slow in the October to December period with a corresponding rebound in sales starting in January. "December sales have already started to rebound off November and we expect this will carry through the New Year. We currently have $1 million in product that is in transit and will be recorded as revenue when it is delivered in December." says CEO, Charles Holmes.

(OTCQB:LXRP) (CSE:LXX) ("Lexaria" for the licensing of its proprietary absorption and palatability enhancing technology for hemp food products.

Pursuant to the LOI, Hempco® and Lexaria will begin lab tests and formulations this week to evaluate proprietary methods of applying Lexaria's newly-patented technology for Hempco's customer needs and demands. Hempco's already excellent award winning food products may be enhanced with Lexaria's patented technology.

Financial terms of the LOI are not disclosed at this time and are still under negotiation, but have already been narrowed down to agreed upon ranges.  The LOI is anticipated to advance into a definitive agreement within 90 days but there is no assurance of this.  Further details regarding the completion of the definitive agreement and formulation development and testing will be announced as information becomes available. Readers should note that if a definitive agreement is completed with Hempco®, much of Lexaria's financial compensation is dependent upon the marketplace success of the Hempco® products enhanced with Lexaria's technology.

(TSXV: HEMP) ("Hempco®" is pleased to announce that Hempco® has found a home for its new hemp foods processing facility in Nisku, Alberta, near the Edmonton International Airport. For several months, Hempco® has been searching for a new location to expand its hemp seed food processing capacity to meet increased global demands. Hempco® has entered into a Lease with Option to Purchase Agreement with Redco Properties Ltd. for a 56,000 sq. ft. new building location on 4.7 acres.

Hempco® is presently producing about 200,000 lbs of hulled hemp seed per month at its MacGregor, Manitoba, facility and expects the Alberta location hemp seed processing equipment will produce approximately 240,000 lbs/month, with scalable plans for 6X that amount or about 1.3 million lbs/month. Phase 1 install completion target is April 2017.

(OTC PINK: HEMP) executives are pleased to report that its wholly owned subsidiary, Industrial Hemp Manufacturing, LLC (IHM) in Spring Hope, North Carolina is set to grow 50 acres of industrial hemp next door to their NC processing plant in the Spring of 2017. According to executives, however, the Spring planting of industrial hemp hinges on the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Commission (NCIHC) establishing the rules and regulations for the state's agriculture program to grow or cultivate industrial hemp. While the Commission has not yet announced a date of when the rules and regulations will be established or released, farmers across the state are hopeful it will be in time to plant hemp during the Spring next year. With more families "going green," farmers see more lucrative opportunity in the environmentally sustainable hemp crop than with any other crop.

Bruce Perlowin, CEO of Hemp, Inc. While the company is looking forward to growing hemp on its 50 acres, Perlowin said the company will continue to plant Kenaf in 2017 if the Commission has not set official procedures in place by the Spring. "This year, we are growing 420 acres of Kenaf in several counties in North Carolina... providing revenues to several farmers throughout the state," said Perlowin.

Kenaf (hibiscus cannabinus) is an annual, non-wood fiber plant that is indigenous to central Africa. Kenaf is a plant in the Malvaceae family also called Deccan hemp and Java jute. It has been likened to okra and cotton and typically grows 12 to 18 feet tall in a six-month growing season. The raw fiber has been known to grow well in many parts of the United States and has been considered an eco-friendlier way to make paper without cutting down trees. According to DavesGarden.com, "uses of the fiber range from paper, grass mats, fiberglass substitutes, animal bedding, oil-absorbent materials, chicken and cat litter, animal forage, particle board, and potting soil, to name a few."

American Voters Overwhelmingly Approve Marijuana Reform in 2016 Presidential Election

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwired - Nov 14, 2016) - Hemp, Inc. (OTC PINK: HEMP) executives are pleased to report that last week's 2016 elections marked a significant day for not only Presidential-Elect Donald Trump but for the marijuana sector as well. An unprecedented nine states had marijuana initiatives included in their ballot. Voters in four of those nine states (California, Nevada, Maine, and Massachusetts) made marijuana legal for recreational use and voters in another four states (Arkansas, Florida, Montana, and North Dakota) approved medical access to marijuana. According to one news source, the cannabis trend is clear... "60% of Americans support legalizing weed, up from 31% in 2000." And the "market for both recreational and medicinal marijuana is now projected to grow to $22 billion by 2020, up from $7 billion this year."

Arkansas' Medical Cannabis Act, in which "affordable dispensing" will give price breaks to low-income patients, was passed by 53%. California's Adult Use of Marijuana Act, in which prior convictions can be expunged, was passed by 55.8%. Florida's Use of Marijuana for Debilitating Conditions Initiative, for qualifying debilitating conditions, passed by a whopping 71%, 11 points more than the supermajority it needed. Maine's Marijuana Legalization Act, which allows for home growing of up to six plants was passed by 50.3%. Massachusetts' Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act, which also allows for home growing of up to six plants, was passed by 53%. Montana's Medical Marijuana Initiative, which allows marijuana to be sold at dispensaries, was passed by 57%. Nevada's Initiative to Regulate and Tax Marijuana, in which a patient or caregiver living 25 miles from the nearest dispensary can grow up to eight plants, was passed by 54%. North Dakota's Medical Marijuana Legalization Initiative, in which a patient or caregiver living 40 miles from the nearest dispensary can grow up to eight plants, was passed by 63.7%. Presidential-Elect Donald Trump fully supports medical marijuana. According to Extract.suntimes.com, Trump was quoted during a campaign rally in Sparks, NV saying, "The marijuana thing is such a big deal. I think medical should happen -- don't we agree?... Trump has apparently been a long-time believer that marijuana should be legalized. In 1990, at an event hosted by the Miami Herald, Trump said, then, "You have to legalize drugs to win that war." According to Reason.com, "the consequences of this nearly complete sweep were dramatic. Prior to the election, four states with a combined population of 17 million (Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington) were willing to allow cannabis consumption without a doctor's note. Now the number of pot-tolerant states has doubled, while their population has nearly quadrupled and includes one in five Americans. The long overdue conversion of California, which by itself accounts for 12 percent of the country's population and 15 percent of its economic output, carries special political and cultural weight." Last week's elections "also gave us the first two medical marijuana states in the South and increased the number of states with such laws from 25 to 28, meaning states that refuse to let patients have whatever relief cannabis can give them are now in the minority."

North Carolina Industrial Hemp Commission Holds Its First Meeting

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwired - Nov 3, 2016) - Hemp, Inc. (OTC PINK: HEMP) executives are pleased to report that the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Commission (NCIHC) held its first official meeting Tuesday, November 1, 2016... marking a significant milestone for N.C.'s industrial hemp industry. The meeting, held at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh, sought "to establish an agricultural pilot program for the cultivation of industrial hemp in the State." The 9-member Commission is tasked with establishing the rules and regulations for the state's agricultural program to grow or cultivate industrial hemp, pursuing permits or waivers from the United States Drug Enforcement Agency or any other federal agency as necessary, issuing licenses in order to cultivate industrial hemp for commercial purposes (to the extent allowed by federal law), laying out an administrative support system for the process of submitting applications and other tasks.

Bruce Perlowin, CEO of Hemp, Inc. (OTC PINK: HEMP), said, "Yesterday was a historic moment for North Carolina. We had the pleasure of attending NCIHC's first meeting to take a comprehensive look of how the newly operative Commission will begin to establish its rules and regulations. I've gone to numerous meetings similar to this, all over America, over the past 8 years and I've never experienced such a huge turnout. I expected to see maybe, at max, 20 or 30 people. To my surprise, this first meeting attracted nearly 200 or more people and at least 60 people signed up to make a public statement. Everyone showed so much enthusiasm and were looking forward to the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Commission to make North Carolina one of the leaders in industrial hemp production. In fact, the head of the Commission said the idea is to make North Carolina the leading hemp growing state in the nation. I believe North Carolina is poised to be the leading hemp growing state in North America."

According to the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the 9-member Commission consists of: Sandy Stewart, Vice Chair (Commissioner's designee); Pat Short (Ag appointed); Fen Rascoe (Ag appointed); Billy McLawhorn (Ag appointed); Guy Carpenter (Ag appointed); Chief Tony Godwin, Town of Cary (Senate); Sheriff Sam Page, Rockingham County (House appointed); Prof. Tom Melton, NCSU (Governor appointed); and, Dr. Guochen Yang, NC A&T State University (Governor appointed). The 3 - 4-hour public meeting convened local farmers, agriculturists, and other industry related professionals.

Hemp, Inc.'s wholly owned subsidiary, Industrial Hemp Manufacturing, LLC, also had its corporate executives in attendance to show their support of industrial hemp farmers, commission members and those in favor of creating this "new cash crop" in North Carolina.

"The extremely useful contribution of the local farming community and other industry professionals from the universities, Department of Agriculture, and law enforcement agencies, in attendance was another added benefit to this initial meeting. A multitude of subjects were covered such as organic certification, potential licensing fees, marketability of the crop, the difference between industrial hemp and marijuana, and more. BioRegen, the company we just signed a Letter of Intent with, was also in attendance," said David Schmitt, COO of Industrial Hemp Manufacturing, LLC.

BioRegen Innovations Cooperative (BioRegen) is a cooperative enterprise of farmers, industry experts and seed breeders. BioRegen seeks to build bio regenerative communities throughout the state of North Carolina. Industrial Hemp Manufacturing, LLC, according to the LOI, will purchase the raw hemp that is to be harvested from BioRegen's land in eastern North Carolina, approximately seventy-five miles from Hemp, Inc.'s 70,000 square foot multi-purpose industrial hemp processing facility in Spring Hope, North Carolina. The industrial hemp crop is to be grown on between 1,000 and 1,500 acres of land and harvested toward the end of next year, 2017.

ABOUT INDUSTRIAL HEMP
Hemp is a durable natural fiber that is grown as a renewable source for raw materials that can be incorporated into thousands of products. It's one of the oldest domesticated crops known to man. HOW HEMP CAN CHANGE THE WORLD
Industrial, medicinal and commercial properties of hemp have been known to mankind for decades. Cultivating hemp does not require any particular climate or soil, and is thus found in all parts of the world and has been found to be a better alternative than other raw materials. Hemp products can be recycled, reused and are 100% biodegradable. The growth speed of the plant is fast enough to meet the increasing industrial and commercial demand for these products. Switching to hemp products will help save the environment, leaving a cleaner and greener planet for the next generation.

"The hemp crop grows dense and vigorously. Sunlight cannot penetrate the plants to reach the ground, and this means the crop is normally free of weeds. Its deep roots use ground water and reduce its salinity. Also, erosion of topsoil is limited, thereby reducing water pollution. The roots give nitrogen and other nutrients to the soil.
