DECLARED NOVEMBER AS "MONTH NATIONAL OF PROMOTION, PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF THE DIABETES AND ITS FACTORS OF RISK"
The Ministry of health, by Ministerial resolution, declared November as "National month of promotion, prevention and Control of Diabetes and its risk factors" within the national health system, aiming to raise awareness among the population about the disease, risks and causes. On November 14 of each year also commemorates the "World Day against Diabetes".
The head of the program of diseases non-communicable, Dr. Adolfo Zarate, explained that this month will head the attention of the population towards the causes, symptoms, treatments and possible complications of diabetes as a means to prevent it. For this reason, reported that they will be carried out promotional activities, at national level, through informative health fairs for the prevention of diabetes and its risk factors. Also, said that it is in the process of buying meters (measuring instrument which is used to obtain the concentration of glucose in blood) and strips of samples, for delivery to the establishment of health, in order to perform the screening and identification of patients with diabetes.
Professional said that non-communicable chronic diseases, including diabetes, became a growing problem of public health in Bolivia, by the high burden of morbidity and mortality attributed to it that reached 62 percent of all the medical attention nationwide by 2014.
According to statistical data, the prevalence of diabetes to national lapoblación, from management 2010 to 2015, is 4.8%. The departments which registered an increase were Santa Cruz with 31% in 2013, followed by Beni with 29% and Tarija with 18%.
