FBI apparently never asked for access to hacked DNC servers

The FBI never bothered to inspect the Democratic National Committee’s infiltrated servers — despite claiming that the Russians were responsible for hacking the group’s servers, the according to a new report.

“The DNC had several meetings with representatives of the FBI’s Cyber Division and its Washington (DC) Field Office, the Department of Justice’s National Security Division, and U.S. Attorney’s Offices, and it responded to a variety of requests for cooperation, but the FBI never requested access to the DNC’s computer servers,” DNC deputy communications director Eric Walker said in a statement to BuzzFeed News.

Instead, the feds relied on an assessment by private tech company CrowdStrike, which was hired by the DNC to investigate the intrusion.

“Beginning at the time the intrusion was discovered by the DNC, the DNC cooperated fully with the FBI and its investigation, providing access to all of the information uncovered by CrowdStrike — without any limits,” Walker said.

An intel official told BuzzFeed: “CrowdStrike is pretty good. There’s no reason to believe that anything that they have concluded is not accurate.”

The revelation comes as the Obama administration has settled on the conclusion that the Russians were behind the election-interference maneuvers — while the incoming Trump administration has rejected that conclusion.

“Julian Assange said ‘a 14-year-old could have hacked Podesta’ — why was DNC so careless? Also said Russians did not give him the info!” the president-elect said in a Wednesday tweet.

On Tuesday evening, Trump added: “The ‘Intelligence’ briefing on so-called ‘Russian hacking’ was delayed until Friday, perhaps more time needed to build a case. Very strange!”
