SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 04, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NETGEAR (NASDAQ: NTGR ), the leading global provider of innovative network devices, today announced the new NETGEAR CM1000 Ultra High Speed Cable Modem . CM1000 is the world’s first retail DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem certified by Comcast. CM1000 will be used by Comcast residential subscribers for Gigabit-per-second Internet speed. Comcast has rolled out Gigabit service to subscribers in Atlanta, Nashville, Chicago, Detroit and Miami. Comcast plans to bring Gigabit Internet speeds to many more cities in coming months.

The introduction of DOCSIS 3.1 is a major development in the evolution of ultra-high-speed broadband over existing infrastructure. This new Cable technology allows consumers to receive gigabit internet speeds over their existing Cable connection enabling ultra-fast speeds. Customers with a DOCSIS 3.1 gigabit-capable modem get the service by signing up for a new plan and then simply plugging in the new NETGEAR CM1000 modem. The NETGEAR CM1000 modem is also backward compatible with DOCSIS 3.0 and works with all existing speed tiers from Comcast.
