According to the Department of Homeland Security, officials arrested 530,250 undocumented immigrants in fiscal year 2016.
Of those arrested from Oct. 1, 2015, to Sept. 30, 2016, the majority were deported to their home countries, officials said.
Fox News Los Angeles correspondent Adam Housley joined "Shepard Smith Reporting" Monday to discuss these figures.
The increase in arrests among undocumented immigrants from 2015 to 2016 was nearly 70,000. According to the report, U.S. Border Patrol arrests alone were up 23 percent year to year.
Housley said the majority of these undocumented immigrants came from three Central American countries: Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.
Officials hypothesized that undocumented immigrants from these countries were attempting to reach America before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, who has said he would adopt stricter immigration policies upon becoming president.
