Until recently, some would argue, James Monroe was the only president we have had that was actively opposed to the Constitution. He thought it gave too much power to the government.
In 1789 James Madison Defeated James Monroe for a congressional seat in the 5th district of Virginia which was and is the only time in our nation's history when two future presidents fought it out for the same political seat.
Have I got you old lunkerheads feeling ejucated yet?
I just got through reading "FOUNDING RIVALS, Madison vs. Monroe, The Bill of Rights and the Election That Saved A Nation" by Chris DeRose. This is a really good book y'all even though there is not nary a picture on any page.
