As an example of what can happen when a beaten-down stock has some good news, AVXL is up more than 10% today on triple normal volume, on the news that their Alzheimer's drug seems to be slowing the decline of patients, as compared to the typical progress of the disease. (It would be unethical to have a real placebo group for a progressive fatal disease like this, and since there is a huge amount of data on typical progression, in my opinion their trial design is perfectly appropriate.)
Now, their trial was NOT at an optimized dose, so this is very preliminary news. But that shows what news can do. Imagine what's going to happen if CTIX releases some news that is more definitive because it's from a later phase of a clinical trial -- as it would be because CTIX is further along in the development....
