OMA reports an 11.3% increase in November 2016 passenger traffic

MONTERREY, Mexico, Dec. 06, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA (NASDAQ: OMAB ) (BMV: OMA ), reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 11.3% in November 2016, as compared to November 2015. Domestic traffic increased 12.9%, and international traffic increased 0.7%.

Of total November traffic, 98.4% was commercial aviation and 1.6% was general aviation.

Total Passengers*
  Nov-15 Nov-16 Change % Jan-Nov 2015 Jan-Nov 2016 Change %
Domestic 1,261,367 1,423,949 12.9 13,270,890 14,904,788   12.3
International 185,024 186,284 0.7 2,145,842 2,135,370   (0.5 )
OMA Total 1,446,391 1,610,233 11.3 15,416,732 17,040,158   10.5

* Terminal passengers: includes passengers on the three types of aviation (commercial, charter, and general aviation), and excludes passengers in transit.                                   Domestic traffic increased in ten airports in November. The most noteworthy increases were Monterrey (+12.8%; +77,875 passengers), Culiacán (+19.1%; +25,333), Ciudad Juárez (+28.3%; +20,901), and Chihuahua (+21.7%; +19,370). Monterrey traffic increased principally because of higher traffic volumes on the Mexico City, Cancún, Guadalajara, and Mérida routes.  Culiacán traffic increased as a result of higher volumes on its Tijuana, Guadalajara, and Mexicali routes. Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua increased traffic principally on their Mexico City routes.

During November, TAR opened the Acapulco-Toluca, Chihuahua-Torreón, Torreón-Chihuahua, Torreón-Querétaro, and Zihuatanejo-Querétaro routes.

International traffic increased in eight airports in November. Traffic increased most significantly in Durango (+213.5%; +2,780 passengers),  principally because of higher volumes on its Chicago and Los Angeles routes;   San Luis Potosí (+16.0%; +1,623), principally because of higher volumes on its Houston route; and Culiacán (+142.3%; +1,516), because of higher volume on its Phoenix route.

The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in November increased 3.7%.  The number of domestic operations increased 5.5%, and international operations decreased 7.8%.
