Human Rights Campaign Awards UPS Perfect Score On Corporate Equality Index

ATLANTA, Dec. 05, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UPS (NYSE: UPS ) has earned a perfect score of 100 percent on the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) Corporate Equality Index, an annual survey that rates U.S. corporations on their non-discrimination policies and practices toward lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees and consumers.

UPS is the only company in the Mail and Freight Delivery category to achieve a perfect score and is recognized as a Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality.

“UPS’s purpose-driven and inclusive culture make us one of the most diverse companies in the world and we’re very proud of the impact these long-held values have on our people and enterprise,” said Eduardo Martinez, president of The UPS Foundation and chief diversity and inclusion officer at UPS. “We believe that diversity is about much more than having a diverse workforce. It’s about creating a fair, authentic and genuine workplace which will catalyze new opportunities for our people, communities and stakeholders around the world.”

Our Diversity & Inclusion Steering Council, in place since 1997, was formed to advance the diversity of UPS employees, customers, suppliers and communities. It’s chaired by David Abney, UPS’s Chairman and CEO. Among these efforts, the company supports LGBT & Allies Business Resource Groups that engage employees, helping them to expand their professional network, develop new skills, support the communities UPS serves and create business opportunities. In addition to internal diversity initiatives, The UPS Foundation also supports community efforts and employee engagement to provide diverse populations with advancement opportunities, including funding organizations focused on enhancing opportunities for higher education, economic empowerment, mentorship and inclusion for underserved or underrepresented segments of society. In 2016, The UPS Foundation will contribute up to $11.6 million to 36 non-profit organizations aligned with these priority focus areas.

The Human Rights Campaign is the largest LGBT civil rights advocacy group and political lobbying organization in the United States. It is a preeminent community partner of The UPS Foundation which has funded the Workplace Project. The goal of this initiative is to educate stakeholders on policies that prohibit discrimination against LGBT workers, provide employee with equal benefits and encourage appropriate marketing within every work environment.
