Green Party Disowns Jill Stein Over Hillary Recount
The Green Party is rebelling against the recount effort by its presidential candidate Jill Stein because she’s only focusing on states Hillary Clinton lost.
Spearheaded by Green Party Senate Candidate Margaret Flowers, the mutiny declared “while we support electoral reforms, including how the vote is counted, we do not support the current recount being undertaken by Jill Stein.”
“As a candidate, Dr. Stein has the right to call for a recount, however, we urge the [Green Party] to distance itself from any appearance of support for either Democrats or Republicans,” Flowers stated. “We are well aware of the undemocratic actions taken during the primaries by the DNC and the Clinton campaign.”
“Greens cannot be perceived to be allied with such a party.”
She also pointed out that Stein is apparently acting alone without direct help from the Green Party.
“The recount has created confusion about the relationship between the Green and Democratic parties because the states chosen for the recount are only states in which Hillary Clinton lost,” Flowers added. “There were close races in other states such as New Hampshire and Minnesota where Clinton won, but which were not part of the recount.”
Stein’s recount effort was already losing steam after she missed a critical deadline in Pennsylvania, and now it appears the mutiny will end the effort altogether.
To put things into perspective, out of the over 134 million ballots cast in the presidential election, Stein received less than 1.5 million, which is roughly around 1%.
The only person the recount effort could benefit is Hillary Clinton, a corporate candidate who many Stein voters venomously opposed.
But a recount is unlikely to flip any states. Trump won Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan by tens of thousands of votes, and no recount has ever flipped that many votes.
And those are the states Clinton would need to change the Electoral College outcome, but as previously mentioned, the recount deadline in Pennsylvania has already passed.
At this point, the only thing Stein is accomplishing is the destruction of her own legacy amongst Greens.
