TripAdvisor Announces Top Spots for Winter Escapes and Best Vacation Values for U.S. Travelers

NEEDHAM, Mass., Dec. 01, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- TripAdvisor ® , the travel planning and booking site, today announced its 2017 Winter Vacation Value Report for U.S. travelers planning to book winter trips. The top 10 domestic and international destinations are based on TripAdvisor search data and ranked according to the least expensive average weekly cost from January 1 – March 31, 2017, factoring one-week expenses for hotels, airfare, meals and attractions. According to a recent TripAdvisor survey, 1 60 percent of U.S. respondents are currently planning a winter leisure trip.  

“Americans thinking past the holidays and booking their winter vacations may want to consider traveling soon after the New Year, when some of the best rates are available,” said Brooke Ferencsik, senior director of communications for TripAdvisor. “Based on TripAdvisor booking data, those that visit these hotspots during mid-late January can save an average of 16 percent compared to February or March.”

Average costs to visit the top winter travel destinations are representative of a one-week trip including a seven-night hotel stay, average national roundtrip airfare, two tours/activities and three restaurant meals per day.

Avg. Nightly Hotel Rate  includes the average cost of a seven night stay in a hotel bookable on TripAdvisor, based on the average nightly bookable hotel rates and highly rated bookable hotels for winter, aggregated from hundreds of booking partners, including online travel agencies and direct hotel suppliers.

Avg. Airfare  includes the U.S. national average for one round-trip airfare to each destination based on searches conducted through TripAdvisor Flights.

Avg. Meal Price  includes the average meal cost per person, excluding drinks, tax and tip. Prices are sourced from restaurants listed on TripAdvisor.

Avg. Tour Price  includes the average cost per person, excluding tax and tip, for two tours/activities per day, based on all bookable single-day tours and activities on TripAdvisor.
