Pelosi re elected / McCain: Dems Have Real Identity Problem, Need to Do an 'Autopsy Report'

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was re-elected Wednesday to her eighth term as House Democratic leader. She defeated her challenger, Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), in a secret-ballot vote, 134-63.

Pelosi's win came after Ryan leveled harsh criticism against party leaders following the November election losses.

"Outnumbered" co-host Meghan McCain said after the vote that Democrats are in need of an "autopsy report," similar to what was needed in the Republican Party following Mitt Romney's 2012 defeat.

McCain likened Pelosi to Hillary Clinton, but called her "more radical."

"Democrats have a real identity problem if your main leadership comes from San Francisco, New York and Massachusetts, and if that's all you can point to, you have a real problem reaching out to the middle," she said.

McCain said Ryan had legitimate reasons to challenge the 76-year-old Pelosi.

"I think the younger generation in the Democratic Party sees that Nancy Pelosi was the captain of the Titanic, led them into the iceberg and wants to say, 'We'll patch it up, everything will end up being fine,'" McCain said.

As a Republican, she said she was "thrilled" there would not be a change in Democratic power since "it just will mean more losses and more of the same."
