Salty, Key Largo shrimping.. My parents wintered at Key Largo in the mid 80's. They dip netted shrimp at a fast moving government cut when the tide was outgoing just about dusk and later. The shrimp would rise to the surface to catch a free ride in the fast moving current. One night they caught a bit over 400. You'd have a couple of lights hanging on the side of the boat, hooked to car batteries. and you could see the red eyes of the shrimp and scoop them up. If they were running, it would last about an hour. And they just ran in the winter and were going from the everglades to the ocean.

They moved to Cape Coral in the late 80's and just as well for shrimping, which they loved. Florida had a major 3 year drought and it dried up much of the shrimp breeding grounds in the everglades. I did hear it came back years later. I went down there for 2 weeks every winter and looked forward to the shrimping and ocean fishing. Caught a lot of Grouper and Yellow-tailed Snappers.ocean fishing After my folks moved, they set size limits and most of what we caught we would have had to through back under the new size limits. Loved catching grunts, and no size limitations there. Those were the days.. The video below I am quite sure is from the same spot we shrimped at as it was the only good spot from Blackwater Sound.
