Little Bit Tacky': 'Outnumbered' Sounds Off on Treatment of Pence at 'Hamilton'
Vice President-elect Mike Pence was booed Friday night as he attended the hit Broadway musical "Hamilton" in New York City.
As Pence took his seat at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, he was met with a chorus of boos. Some audience members also reported that the show was paused several times as the audience loudly booed Pence.
Pence reacted graciously, saying on "Fox News Sunday" that he told his children "that's what freedom sounds like."
After the show, cast member Brandon Victor Dixon made a statement to Pence, saying that the diverse cast is “anxious” about the incoming administration.
Pence said he heard what Dixon said, but he wasn't offended and said he "would leave it to others" to decide whether the venue was appropriate.
President-elect Trump, however, lashed out at the cast for the "terrible behavior," tweeting that the show is "highly overrated" and demanding an apology.
The "Outnumbered" hosts weighed in this afternoon, with Dagen McDowell calling out the "elitist, least inclusive, most exclusionary event" in the country, since a single ticket goes for $1,000 or more.
Kennedy agreed that Broadway is another example of a liberal "bubble" and called Dixon's singling-out of an audience member "a little bit tacky." They agreed that Pence could have been invited backstage, where the cast members could have let him respond.
Meghan McCain noted that Alexander Hamilton, for whom the show is named, believed people should be deported for disagreeing with George Washington.
She added that it's never appropriate to boo a politician when the person is not on a stage or at a rally.
"Liberals always preach empathy except when it comes to conservatives ... and Christians," said McCain.
