Donald Trump's stunning success as a politician was apparently predicted nearly three decades ago by a former president.
In OBJECTified: Donald Trump, we got an exclusive and revealing look at the president-elect and some of his most prized possessions.
One of those keepsakes is a 1987 letter Trump received from Richard Nixon.
In the letter, Nixon congratulated Trump on an appearance on "The Phil Donahue Show," during which the billionaire businessman argued that the U.S. must be compensated for providing military protection to other countries.
"I did not see the program, but Mrs. Nixon told me that you were great," Nixon wrote. "As you can imagine, she is an expert on politics and she predicts whenever you decide to run for office you will be a winner!"
"It was just amazing that he wrote it," Trump said.
Trump revealed that he did not know Nixon well, but he would receive letters from the former president.
"It was very interesting," Trump said. "He always wanted me to run for office."
