Automotive Grade Linux Membership Grows 60% in 2016

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - November 15, 2016) - Automotive Grade Linux (AGL), a collaborative open source project developing a Linux-based, open platform for the connected car, today announced five new members have joined Automotive Grade Linux and The Linux Foundation.

"The industry is beginning to realize that an open platform can lead to tangible business results and significantly reduce production times, development costs and improve product design," said Dan Cauchy, Executive Director of Automotive Grade Linux. "We've seen tremendous growth over the past year, and we plan to build on that momentum with the next release of the AGL Unified Code Base later this year."

The AGL Unified Code Base (UCB) distribution was built from the ground up by a broad community of automakers, suppliers and technology companies. The in-vehicle infotainment platform is ideal for deploying navigation, communications, safety, security and connectivity and is in a unique position to become the de facto standard for the industry. The third release of the UCB will be on display at CES 2017; details will be shared later this year.

AGL has close to 90 members representing various business interests, from semiconductors and in-vehicle software to IoT and connected cloud services. The newest AGL members include: Audiokinetic, Sasken Communication Technologies, Star Lab, Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Witekio.

New Member Quotes:

Audiokinetic

"Our solutions empower booth audio creators and programmers to create interactive audio experiences," said Martin H. Klein, President and CEO of Audiokinetic. "The vehicle is the next major consumer platform, and we look forward to contributing our expertise and technology in developing interactive audio solutions to Automotive Grade Linux."

Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd

"Sasken has a deep understanding of the software solutions and processes needed to help OEMs and Tier 1s keep pace with the evolution of consumer technology," said Ram Ramaseshan, Senior Vice President at Sasken Communication Technologies. "Open industry standards can speed up production, enable rapid innovation and reduce software development costs for everyone, which is why we look forward to contributing to AGL."

Star Lab

"Joining Automotive Grade Linux and The Linux Foundation is a positive step forward for Star Lab. As an embedded security company that primarily deals with Linux-based operating systems, we value the contribution the Foundation and its volunteers provide to making Linux better for everyone," said Irby Thompson, President/CEO of Star Lab. "Star Lab is also involved in various LF collaborative projects including Xen Project, and we aim to make an even bigger contribution and play a more vital role in the open source community through our collaboration with Automotive Grade Linux."

Toyota Tsusho Corporation

"An open platform for the connected car can help speed up the development of the next-generation of in-car technology," said Yasuhiro Kakihara, General Manager, Future Mobility Business Development Department, Toyota Tsusho Corporation. "We look forward to applying our knowledge of software development, semiconductors and electronic components to help accelerate the development and adoption of Automotive Grade Linux."

Witekio

"As embedded systems become more complex, system software integration is a key success factor for any embedded and connected devices development," said Yannick Chammings, CEO at Witekio. "Working with Automotive Grade Linux provides us an opportunity to help create a platform that can adapt and keep pace with consumer technology as new devices hit the market."
