Reliable AI system predicts Trump will win

A data-crunching artificial intelligence system that’s correctly predicted the last three US presidential elections is picking Donald Trump to be the next commander in chief.

The AI system, called MogIA, crunches 20 million data points from sites such as Google, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to spew out its predictions, CNBC reported.

It shows that Trump has overtaken the social media engagement numbers of Barack Obama’s peak in 2008 – by 25 percent.

And that’s important, because the candidate in each election who led in engagement data ended up winning the presidency, according to MogIA creator Sanjiv Rai, founder of an Indian start-up company called Genic.ai

“If Trump loses, it will defy the data trend for the first time in the last 12 years since Internet engagement began in full earnest,” Rai told CNBC.

But Rai noted that the massive amount of data in social media posts are tough to analyze. Just because somebody engages with a Trump tweet, it doesn’t mean they also support him.

MogIA — created in 2004 — has grown steadily smarter over the years, and has already correctly predicted the results of the Democratic and Republican primaries.

But most reputable national polls now have Hillary Clinton ahead by a strong margin – but the Democratic nominee should not grow complacent, Rai cautioned.

“If you look at the primaries, in the primaries, there were immense amount of negative conversations that happen with regards to Trump. However, when these conversations started picking up pace, in the final days, it meant a huge game opening for Trump and he won the primaries with a good margin,” he said.
