Statement on President Obama’s Dangerous Effort to Close Gitmo
"The Obama Administration's dangerous and lawless effort to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay by the backdoor, despite the bipartisan wishes of Congress and a vast majority of the American public, is needlessly putting American lives at risk.
We now have learned that the Obama Administration is releasing Mohamedou Ould Slahi, a major figure in al-Qaeda with ties to two 9/11 hijackers and was involved with multiple terror plots against the United States. Dozens of released detainees have already returned to combat against the U.S. and our allies, and many have been involved in new attacks against Americans. The American people deserve better than this administration's politically driven approach to terrorism. These unrepentant enemies of the United States should be tried by military commission and punished accordingly."- Former Congressman Peter Hoekstra, former Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee
