Czech Police Arrest Russian Suspected of Hacking U.S. Targets
Bloomberg

Suspect wanted by FBI arrested at hotel in central Prague
Russian man collapsed upon detention; Czechs mull extradition

Czech police arrested a Russian citizen suspected by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of hacking targets in the U.S. and officials are considering his extradition.

Officers alerted by a so-called “Red Notice” from Interpol detained the man at a hotel in the capital, Czech police said in a statement on their website published late on Tuesday. The man, whom officials didn’t name, had been moving around the European Union state in a luxury car with his girlfriend, it said. The Prague city court ordered the suspect to remain in custody as authorities decide on whether or not to extradite him to the U.S., according to the statement.

“The suspect was so surprised by the police action that he put up no resistance,” police said in the statement. “Immediately after the detention, the man exhibited signs of collapse and police had to provide first aid and, in the end, he was hospitalized.”

The arrest follows accusations from President Barack Obama’s administration that Russia’s government is involved with hackers targeting U.S. targets, and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has blamed President Vladimir Putin for leaks that have hit her campaign. The Russian leader has repudiated the charges, as “hysteria” and said Obama’s government wants to distract the attention of Americans from the substance of the hacked material.
