In order to preserve no exclusions for pre-existing conditions and no lifetime limits on coverage, we still need a buy in of enough healthy subscribers to spread the costs.
A public option standing along side of the ACA would place competitive pressures on the insurance companies, if they
want to compete at all.
A proposal to untether health insurance from employment would make companies very happy, not to mention make them more competitive with the rest of the world.
No more employee deductions from paychecks for private health insurance and a lower buy in to a public option? Let's crunch the numbers to see if it works.
Blow up the ACA? Replace it with what, exactly?
Those are questions worth debating. I've yet to read or hear about the GOP replacement for the ACA, if one exists.
I think what I've described is more comprehensive than what the GOP has.
