$TBEV huge bid, hot sector for their products! 5 Ways Sugar Can Kill an Athlete’s Career
All of us need to keep a close eye on our food intake and the drinks we consume. Athletes need to pay even more attention in this regard as one wrong move on their part can lead to the death of their career, no matter how famous and talented they are. Unfortunately, many times, we are unaware of what is going on inside our body. Drinks that claim to be sports drinks are nothing but full of calories and sugar. A can of soda alone contains a whopping 39 grams of sugar!
We all might have heard how sugar is good for an athlete who has tough workout routines but what we fail to give importance to the amount and the type of sugar that needs to be taken. Athletes need a good source of energy to regain fuel for their body and this energy can be replenished with sugars like glucose, fructose, sucrose and lactose. Just so you know, the sugar that is in our drinks is neither of these.
Since athletes consume energy and sports drinks abundantly, they take a healthy dose of non-beneficial sugar along with it. What they do need is a high-performance beverage that has zero sugar. Want to know how sugar can be horribly dangerous for an athlete? Well here it goes:
1. Addiction:
Sugar has a very high possibility of making the person addicted to it. In fact, recent research in France even discovered that the sweet rush from artificial and refined sugar can be even more intense than that generated through the use of cocaine. As many may know, once addiction grabs hold of a person, they remain good for nothing, either in sports or for doing the daily chores.
2. Sugar Could Cost You a Race:
That’s true! Sugar in any form is dangerous for runners and especially if they consume a sugar infused drink an hour before a race. They'll end up becoming weak and a weak person can hardly win any races.
3. Too Much Hydration:
Excess of anything is bad, even if it is hydration. You might be wondering; what is the relation between sugar and hydration? The answer is quite obvious. A drink with sugar will urge you to drink it more often (remember sugar rush?). The more you drink, the more you get hydrated and the more the chances that it might lead to questionable performances and water intoxication.

4. Illusion of Energy:
There’s another thing about sugar; it gives you an illusion of energy. The moment you consume something with sugar in it, you’ll instantly feel fresh and energetic which, to be honest, is just superfluous and might drain your energy faster than you expected.
5. Other Dangers:
Sugar also leads to various other conditions that might render an athlete unable to perform, obesity being one of those. Other conditions include copper deficiency, premature aging, a quick rise in adrenaline and a negative effect on the immune system.
