Washington – Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan will campaign together for the first time on the weekend in Wisconsin, the congressman's home state, which is also a swing state in the November election, the legislator's office announced Thursday.
Trump will join Ryan on Saturday at the annual Fall Festival in Elkhorn, along with the state's Republican senator, Ron Johnson; Gov. Scott Walker and state GOP president Brad Courtney
While Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has been embraced and accompanied at assorted campaign events by almost all the heavyweights of her party, ranging from her main rival in the Democratic primaries, Bernie Sanders to President Barack Obama, the Republicans have been much more leery of being seen with Trump and their support for him has been far shakier.
Ryan delayed several months in officially endorsing the real estate magnate because of the latter's incendiary rhetoric, but he finally held several meetings with Trump to discuss his stances on various issues and accepted the will of the primary voters who handed him the GOP nomination.
Nevertheless, Ryan has remained outside the Republican election loop since Trump was officially confirmed as the party's presidential candidate at its July convention in Cleveland, an unusual situation since he holds the top political job in the country for the conservatives.
Ryan met privately with Trump's daughter Ivanka several weeks ago in New York, but he has not appeared at any of the candidate's campaign events.
His appearance with Trump comes on the eve of the second presidential debate between the mogul and Clinton, scheduled for Sunday evening in St. Louis, Missouri.
