John Marsden John Marsden is a professional engineer with twenty-eight years of broad, international experience in the design and management of major, innovative copper, gold, silver, molybdenum and cobalt operations and projects in the USA, Chile, Peru, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and the Congo (DRC). Most recently, Marsden was president of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. and senior vice president of its predecessor company, Phelps Dodge Corporation. Prior to that, Marsden has held various operations and technical management positions during nine years withConsolidated Gold Fields PLC and eighteen years withFreeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (formerly Phelps Dodge Corporation). Marsden has been involved in the design, commissioning, operation and optimization of more than 40 mining operations and projects globally. He is the author of the book "The Chemistry of Gold Extraction", with the first edition published in 1992 and the second edition published in 2006. He has authored 34 technical papers, has provided many keynote and plenary presentations around the world, and has 20 issued U.S. Patents (including a number of continuation patents).Marsden is on the board of directors for Romarco Minerals Inc., the Institute for Mineral Resources at the University of Arizona, and a number of other university and industry advisory boards. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the Society for Mining,Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME), and the Minerals,Metals and Materials Society (TMS). Marsden is currently an active supporter of SME, and was on the board of Directors of SME from 2006 to 2009. He also served on the executive committee of AMIRA International from 2002 to 2008.
