HTC launches Windows Phone 8 to compete with Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK)’s Lumia Series

December 10, 2012 | By David Graves

The Taiwanese electronics and technology producer HTC recently rolled out a slightly sharper new smartphone the HTC 8S. Company introduces its latest mobile right after the Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) launch of Nokia Lumia handset.

Taoyuan City, Taiwan based HTC made debut of its mobile phone that holds a 4 inch screen with 480×800 pixels of high resolution.

The smartphone launched by HTC is also called Windows Phone 8S. The device is available for sale for just £180.

The resolution is a clear signal that the new gadget holds better picture quality than its predecessor the HTC 820.

Although it is the fact that the HTC Windows Phone 8 is here to curb the stiff competition from Nokia however it lacks some features like apps and other services. Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK)’s Lumia range has advantage over Windows Phone 8 due to strong apps like Nokia Music, Nokia Drive, Nokia CityLens and other many apps and services.

Nokia Lumia 820 costs nearly £360 which is about £150 more than the HTC Windows Phone 8.

Let’s talk about the physical side of the both machines. The Nokia Lumia 820 gets its processing done by more powerful processors. It is equipped with 1.5ghz dual core processor. However the HTC Windows Phone 8 has a 1ghz microprocessor.

Analysts are of the view that both of the phones are alike in appearance unless one uses each device separately.

With the help of additional microSD cards the users can extend the memory of both devices up to 64 GB. HTC Windows Phone 8 holds a 5 megapixel camera while Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK)’s Lumia line is equipped with more powerful 8 megapixel camera. However considering the price that the consumer pays for HTC Windows Phone 8 the camera result is perfect.

The animations and transitions of Windows Phone 8 work at a fixed pace. This transition helps users to move from one screen to another. Theoretically the difference can only be experienced by using the apps and games that come with the phone.
