Capitol Federal Financial, Inc. (NASDAQ: CFFN) has reported net income increased USD1.9 million, or 10.3 percent, from the quarter ended September 30, 2015 to USD20.7 million, or USD0.16 per share, compared to net income of USD20.5 million, or USD0.15 per share, for the quarter ended December 31, 2014, the company said. The USD246 thousand, or 1.2 percent, increase in net income was due primarily to a USD309 thousand increase in non-interest income and a USD266 thousand decrease in income tax expense, partially offset by an USD448 thousand increase in non-interest expense. Net income attributable to the daily leverage strategy was USD583 thousand during the current quarter, compared to USD795 thousand for the prior year quarter. The decrease in the net income attributable to the daily leverage strategy was due to an increase in the FHLB line of credit borrowings rate, which was larger than the increase in the average yield earned on the cash at the Federal Reserve Bank. Net income attributable to the daily leverage strategy was USD583 thousand during the current quarter compared to USD669 thousand in the prior quarter. The decrease in the net income attributable to the daily leverage strategy was due to an increase in the Federal Home Loan Bank Topeka line of credit borrowings rate, which was larger than the increase in the average yield earned on cash at the Federal Reserve Bank. Net interest income increased USD42 thousand, or 0.1 percent, from the prior quarter to USD48.0 million for the current quarter. The net interest margin was 1.75 percent for the current quarter, unchanged from the prior quarter. Highlights for the quarter include: o annualized deposit portfolio growth of 12 percent; o net interest margin of 1.75 percent (2.11 percent excluding the effects of the daily leverage strategy); and o paid dividends of USD44.6 million, or USD0.335 per share. Total assets were USD9.13 billion at December 31, 2015 compared to USD9.84 billion at September 30, 2015. In October 2015, the company announced a stock repurchase plan for up to USD70.0 million of common stock. The repurchase plan does not have an expiration date. The company did not repurchase any shares during the three months ended December 31, 2015 or subsequent to December 31, 2015 through the date of this release.
