A Queens, N.Y.-based investment group called Landco H&L, led by a mysterious woman named Lily Li and thought to include investors from China, bought the building for $2.7 million, with only vague indications of any plans for it.

Since Landco’s purchase, repeated efforts to contact Li or other representatives of Landco have been unsuccessful, although city officials and members of the Hunt family, which owns the Brisbane Building next door to AM&A’s, say they have met Li. Schenne said she and her partners are “private people.”
