Pence: NY, NJ, MN Terror Attacks 'Call For New Leadership and Direction'

Prior to an evening rally in Dubuque, Iowa, Republican vice presidential candidate Gov. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) went On The Record to discuss the Trump campaign and the recent terror attacks in New Jersey, New York and Minnesota.

“We’re all still reeling from the series of terror attacks on our country [like in San Bernardino and Orlando], and our hearts just sank again this weekend,” Pence told Brit Hume.

Pence expressed his gratitude to the first responders and law enforcement for their quick and professional action, capturing suspect Ahmad Rahami in Linden, N.J. Monday afternoon.

“It is a reminder that we are at war with radical Islamic terrorism,” he said, “With an ISIS caliphate inspiring violence on our shores.”

These attacks “call for new leadership and a new direction—that will happen when Donald Trump becomes president,” he said.

Pence also responded to criticism that Trump’s national security and war on terror plans have been too vague.

“I think people know that Donald will provide tough, broad shouldered leadership—that’s actually going to name the enemy,” he said, referencing President Obama and Hillary Clinton’s apparent equivocation over declaring mass casualty events to be ‘terrorism’.
