15 Years After 9/11, Cheneys Warn of Foreign Perils From Obama’s ‘Retreat

Former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz, a candidate for the US House in Wyoming, wrote a lengthy column in the Wall Street Journal commemorating 15 years since the 9/11 attacks-- and compared America’s defense capability then to ours today.

“Fifteen years ago this Sunday, nearly 3,000 Americans were killed in the deadliest attack on the U.S. homeland in our history,” they wrote, “A decade and a half later, we remain at war with Islamic terrorists. Winning this war will require an effort of greater scale and commitment than anything we have seen since World War II, calling on every element of our national power.”

The Cheneys said President Obama has done more to weaken the United States’ security and international standing since that tragic day, making references to the clandestine shipment of billions of dollars to Iran, as well as threats from China, North Korea and Russia.

“Fifteen years after 3,000 Americans were killed by Islamic terrorists, America’s commander in chief has become the money launderer in chief for the world’s leading state sponsor of terror.”

They also spoke of Obama’s interest in ending foreign conflicts:

“The president who came into office promising to end wars has made war more likely by diminishing America’s strength and deterrence ability,” they said. “Undoing this damage will require an effort of historic proportions. Our next president must abandon Mr. Obama’s fantasy that unilaterally disarming, retreating and abandoning our allies will bring peace and security.

“Imagine a world where the terrorists and their leading state sponsor have nuclear weapons. Fifteen years after 9/11, we can say with certainty that this is the world that will be created by withdrawal and retreat—by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s policies—if we don’t reverse course.”
