The Seattle Seahawks may protest the national anthem as a team before Sunday's opening game, the Seattle Times reported.
The comment from Seattle linebacker Bobby Wagner comes after cornerback Jeremy Lane sat for the national anthem before the team's final preseason game last week.
"It’s going to be a team thing. That’s what the world needs to see. The world needs to see people coming together versus being individuals," said Wagner, adding that he hasn't decided whether he will stand or sit on Sunday, the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Lane said he stayed seated on the bench in Oakland to show solidarity with 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who sparked a national controversy by refusing to stand for "The Star-Spangled Banner" before the team's preseason games.
Kaepernick said he decided to take action to protest racial inequality and violence by police officers against minorities.
Wagner said the team has discussed the issue and plan to make a decision before the home kickoff against Miami.
Wide receiver Doug Baldwin said Wednesday he's considering joining Lane in protest. Lane has said he plans to sit for the anthem all season.
Baldwin, who took to Twitter last week to defend Lane, said he would "make sure I get all of my ducks in a row before I do so.""It’s going to be a team thing. That’s what the world needs to see. The world needs to see people coming together versus being individuals," said Wagner, adding that he hasn't decided whether he will stand or sit on Sunday, the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
