Dr. Guyuron brings with him a wealth of expertise in surgical techniques as well as a full roster of professional associations and medical board appointments.  He is considered by his peers and patients as one of the best doctors in the United States being listed among the Best Doctors in America from 2000 to the present.  With the approaching ISAPS Congress in Kyoto, Japan next month, this news will provide a timely introduction.

“To assign this important role to such a distinguished plastic surgeon is an honor,” noted Susumu Takayanagi, MD, ISAPS president. “As champions of advancements in the field of plastic surgery worldwide, the ISAPS journal editor must take seriously all contributions submitted,” he states.

With his breadth of knowledge and discovery in the plastic surgery field, Dr. Guyuron has published more than 200 medical articles in peer-reviewed journals, three textbooks and more than 40 book chapters on plastic surgery. He has delivered more than 1,000 lectures in more than 20 countries. He has also served as scientific reviewer and senior editor on a number of scientific journals, including: Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Aesthetic Surgery Journal.

After graduating from Tehran University Medical School in 1971, Dr. Guyuron completed his residency in general surgery at Boston University in 1978 followed by training in plastic surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He then did a specialized fellowship in craniofacial surgery at Toronto University’s Hospital for Sick Children in 1980-1981.  Dr. Guyuron continues to contribute to medical education by working as a visiting professor for over 20 academic centers in the U.S. and abroad and currently serves as Emeritus Professor of Plastic Surgery at Case Western Reserve University in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.

By specializing in craniofacial plastic surgery, Dr. Guyuron has made strides in patient aesthetics and treatment and is regularly sought after for rhinoplasty surgeries and advancements. He is considered the leading authority on migraine surgery and pioneered a method using nerve decompression, which eliminates trigger points from being targeted.  “I look forward to working with an innovative professional who treats patient care as highly as research and application.  Dr. Guyuron is at the top of his field and brings a true specialty to our organization,” concludes incoming ISAPS president Dr. Renato Saltz.  Dr. Guyuron will be formally introduced at the biennial global Congress in Kyoto, Japan, October 23-27, 2016.
