Nobody took me up on this, so I just completed this myself.
I wanted to figure out the market caps of the 16 companies/apps featured on the home screen of this smart TV and see how their market caps compare to NTEK since Ultraflix is 1/16 featured apps too. Scroll down to see the image I am referencing.
Featured App Market Caps
Twitter: 14 Billion
Amazon: 367 Billion
YouTube: 40 Billion? (Since YouTube is owned by Google, I was interested in the market cap of YouTube only. YouTube was bought out by Google in 2006 for 1.65 Billion and is now worth much more than that. Here is an article estimating their worth. http://www.adweek.com/news/technology/youtube...er-159861)
Crackle: Privately owned, Subsidiary of Sony
PGA Championship: CBS
M-GO: Bought out by Fandango which is owned by Comcast
HBO: Privately owned by Time Warner Cable
Netflix: 42 Billion
Sony Playstation: Sony Corp. 41 Billion
Vudu: Privately owned by Walmart
Cinema Now: Privately owned by Film On
Ultraflix: 5 Million
3D Go: Owned by Sensio, market cap 64 Million
Pandora: 97 Billion
Hulu: Privately owned by NBC Universal
Disney: 151 Billion
There were several key takeaways from this research:
1. 7 out of the 16 (~44%) companies have market caps that range anywhere between 14-367 Billion.
2. 7 of out 16 (~44%) companies are privately owned by Corporations that worth multi-multi Billions of Dollars.
3. 1 out 16 (~6%) companies is worth 64 Million, Sensio which owns the 3D GO! app.
4. 1 out of 16 (~6%) companies is worth 5 Million, NTEK which owns the Ultraflix app.
5. The company with the lowest market cap is NTEK at 5 Million. The second lowest market cap is Sensio at 64 Million. NTEK's market cap is 92% smaller than Sensio's.
From a data analyst perspective, 88% of the companies owned in this market space are either Multi Billion Dollar market caps that trade on the market OR privately owned companies operating as a subsidiary under a Multi Billion Dollar Corporation.
Also, at least 4 of these companies listed (YouTube, Vudu, M-GO, and Cinema Now) were bought out turning all of these companies private.
