29-year-old Navy machinist Kristian Saucier was sentenced by a federal judge to one year in prison and ordered to pay a $100 fine for taking photos inside the submarine he worked on.
The judge was unconvinced when Saucier's defense attorneys brought up the FBI's decision not to charge Hillary Clinton with mishandling classified information.
“Mr. Saucier possessed six (6) photographs classified as ‘confidential/restricted,’ far less than Clinton’s 110 emails,” attorney Derrick Hogan wrote.
He wrote that it would be "unjust and unfair for Mr. Saucier to receive any sentence other than probation for a crime those more powerful than him will likely avoid."
Saucier's attorney Greg Rinkey told On the Record that he believes the justice system in America is politicized.
"If you're powerful and you have a name recognition, you're not going to be prosecuted," he said.
Rinkey said that his client was clearly not a spy.
"These photographs were taken seven years ago by a young man who was looking to take photographs to have some mementos that he could show his kids where he worked on the sub."
Saucier's mother Kathleen said that she would like to see Clinton explain why she's been held to a different standard.
"I would gladly sit in the front row of a presidential debate and look at Hillary Clinton while she tries to explain to the American public why she's not held to the same standard as my son, a U.S. Navy Sailor is."
