Markel Corporation (NYSE:MKL) reported book value per common share outstanding of $603.13 at June 30, 2016, up 7% from $561.23 at December 31, 2015. Comprehensive income to shareholders was $209.9 million for the second quarter of 2016 compared to a comprehensive loss to shareholders of $132.9 million for the second quarter of 2015. Comprehensive income to shareholders was $606.9 million for the six months ended June 30, 2016 compared to $148.9 million for the same period of 2015. The combined ratio was 93% for the second quarter of 2016 compared to 96% for the second quarter of 2015. The combined ratio was 90% for the six months ended June 30, 2016 and 2015. Diluted net income per share was $5.41 for the quarter ended June 30, 2016 compared to $6.72 for the second quarter of 2015.
