M&T Bank reports Q4 2015 net income OF USD271m

M&T Bank Corporation (NYSE: MTB) has reported GAAP-basis net income in the recent quarter was USD271 million, compared with USD278 million in the final quarter of 2014 and USD280 million in 2015's third quarter, the company said. Reflecting the impact of merger-related expenses associated with its recent acquisition, M&T's diluted earnings per common share measured in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for the fourth quarter of 2015 were USD1.65, compared with USD1.92 in the year-earlier quarter and USD1.93 in the third quarter of 2015. Expressed as an annualized rate of return on average assets and average common shareholders' equity, GAAP-basis net income for the recent quarter was .93 percent and 7.22 percent, respectively, compared with 1.12 percent and 9.10 percent, respectively, in the year-earlier quarter and 1.13 percent and 8.93 percent, respectively, in the third quarter of 2015. M&T's fourth quarter results reflect its acquisition of Hudson City Bancorp, Inc., effective November 1, 2015, including the payment of cash consideration of USD2.1 billion and the issuance of 25,953,950 common shares. Assets acquired in the transaction totaled approximately USD34.6 billion, including USD19.0 billion of loans and USD7.9 billion of investment securities, while liabilities assumed were USD31.5 billion, including USD17.9 billion of deposits and USD13.2 billion of borrowings. For the full year of 2015, diluted earnings per common share were USD7.18, compared with USD7.42 for 2014. Net income totaled USD1.08 billion in 2015, up from USD1.07 billion in 2014. Expressed as a rate of return on average assets and average common shareholders' equity, net income in 2015 was 1.06 percent and 8.32 percent, respectively, compared with 1.16 percent and 9.08 percent, respectively, in 2014. M&T is a financial holding company headquartered in Buffalo, New York. The company's principal banking subsidiary, M&T Bank, operates banking offices in New York, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. Trust-related services are provided by M&T's Wilmington Trust-affiliated companies and by M&T Bank.
