First South Bancorp reports Q4 2015 net income of USD1.6m
M2 - Thu Feb 04, 7:00AM CST
First South Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: FSBK) has reported net income of USD1.6 million or USD0.16 per diluted common share in the fourth quarter 2015, compared to net income of USD1.2 million, or USD0.13 per diluted common share for the linked 2015 third quarter and USD149,000 or USD0.02 per diluted common share for the comparative 2014 fourth quarter, the company said. Net income for the year ended December 31, 2015 was USD4.7 million, or USD0.49 per diluted common share, compared to USD4.1 million, or USD0.42 per diluted common share for the year ended December 31, 2014. Income for the fourth quarter and the year-ended 2014 reflects the impact of USD1.7 million of one-time pre-tax transaction expenses associated with the acquisition of nine branch offices from Bank of America (BOA) in mid-December. The company said loan and lease growth during the fourth quarter remained strong as loans and leases held for investment increased USD39.7 million to bring the total outstandings to USD607.0 million at year end 2015. Growth in loans and leases held for investment for 2015 totaled USD126.6 million or a 26.3 percent increase over the USD480.4 million outstanding at year end 2014. This expansion in loan base will be a strong catalysis of income growth for the company into 2016. Net interest income for the fourth quarter of 2015 increased to USD7.7 million from USD7.4 million for the linked 2015 third quarter and USD6.8 million earned for the comparative 2014 fourth quarter. Net interest income for the year ended 2015 improved to USD29.4 million, a USD3.0 million or 11.2 percent increase, from the USD26.4 million generated during the comparative year ended 2014. Total non-interest income for the 2015 fourth quarter of USD3.7 million was relatively consistent with the USD3.8 million earned during the linked 2015 third quarter and above the USD2.3 million earned for the 2014 fourth quarter. The year-over-year increase is due primarily to additional service and fee income on deposit accounts associated with the acquisition of branch offices in mid-December of 2014, coupled with gains on the sale of investment securities realized in the fourth quarter of 2015. Total assets increased to USD946.3 million at December 31, 2015, from USD885.4 million at December 31, 2014. First South Bank has served the citizens of eastern and central North Carolina since 1902 and offers a variety of financial products and services to business and individual customers. The bank operates through its main office headquartered in Washington, North Carolina, and has 33 full service branch offices located throughout eastern and central North Carolina.
