Annie Oakley, known as "Little Sure Shot," was born on August 13, 1860, 156 years ago today.
Born in Darke County, Ohio, Oakley became famous for her incredible proficiency with firearms as a teenager and went on to star in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show.
Her incredible feats of marksmanship dazzled audiences for decades.
According to legend, she could split a playing card held edge-on at 30 paces, she hit dimes tossed into the air and she shot cigarettes from her husband’s lips.
She passed away in Greenville, Ohio, in November 1926 at the age of 66.
