Kurtz: Media Likes Argument Made By Khan,
But Not By Benghazi Mom Smith, And That ‘Seems To Show In the Coverage’

On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” Fox News Media Analyst and host Howard Kurtz contrasted the coverage of the convention speeches given by Patricia Smith and Khizr Khan, arguing that Khan’s speech got more attention and praise because he attacked Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for a policy that most of the media dislikes, while the media tends to think that Smith’s criticism of Democratic presidential nominee former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton isn’t fair.

Kurtz said that only one grieving family “drew enormous media attention. Khan’s speech made the front page of the New York Times, and he was invited on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press,’ and CNN’s ‘State of the Union.'”

Kurtz then wondered, “But what about Patricia Smith? True, she’d castigated Clinton before, in numerous interviews, but her speech was widely ignored, and in some cases, attacked.”

He concluded that while Clinton took a “softer approach” to Smith “Khan is ripping Trump for pushing a temporary ban on Muslim immigrants, which is unpopular with most of the media. Smith is personally blaming Clinton for Benghazi, which most of the media find unfair, and that seems to show in the coverage.”
