This research service provides an analysis of the West African telecommunications market. The areas of focus are fixed-line, mobile, and Internet communications with special interest in broadband communications. Technologies include fibre, satellite, WiMAX, Wi-Fi, 3G, ADSL, and CDMA. Each of the 15 West African countries is analyzed on country and regional levels. Key Findings - - Amongst the West African countries, Cape Verde ranks highest in both the networked readiness index (NRI) and the ICT development index (IDI). - The telecommunications markets in the region are characterized by early liberalization and fierce competition between major mobile network operators (MNOs) such as MTN, Orange, Airtel, Maroc Telecom, and Tigo, each of which has a presence in multiple countries. - The mobile communications markets in Benin, Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Nigeria have numerous operators and one can expect some consolidation in these markets in the next years. - Even though the telecommunications industry is growing at a rapid rate, civil wars, terrorism, poverty, as well as economic and environmental challenges are still inhibiting development in countries such as Liberia and Niger. - The integration of the telecommunications, banking, and insurance industries in the region is redefining the business models of companies in each of these markets. - Partnerships between MNOs and managed service providers are becoming more evident, which helps MNOs to efficiently manage their technical resources while increasing customer satisfaction. - Mobile money services are gaining in popularity in West Africa, which in turn has led to the usage of more advanced technologies such as mobile wallets and near field communication (NFC). MNO KPI Benchmarks 2014 (FY2013)
M2 - Mon May 18, 6:38AM CDT
Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/mzqqm2/mno_kpi) has announced the addition of the "MNO KPI Benchmarks 2014 (FY2013)" report to their offering. A year-on-year comparison of EBITDA margins across 67 MNOs showed a decrease of 0.1 percentage points, primarily as a result of regulatory intervention (MTR and roaming rate cuts as well as new telecom/utility taxes); tariffs cuts in response to competition and higher costs in customer retention and support for mobile data growth. Macroeconomic weaknesses, including currency depreciation, have continued to affect EBITDA margins although not as much as in recent years. In response, an increasing number of operators have switched to reporting EBITDA in an integrated form and this year's EBITDA benchmarks include a new graphic showing the link between EBITDA margin and revenue mix. The new analysis shows that pure mobile players (operators deriving less than 10% of revenues from non-mobile business) have EBITDA margins higher than those reported by partly integrated operators (those deriving between 10% and 40% of their revenue from non-mobile services) but lower than those reported by fully integrated operators (those deriving over 40% of their revenues from non-mobile services). Companies Mentioned - 3 - Airtel - America Movil - AT&T - BASE - Bouygues Telecom - China Mobile - Cosmote - DiGi - Djezzy - EE - Maroc Telecom - Mobinil - Mobistar - NTT DoCoMo - O2 - Optus - Orange - SFR - SingTel - SK Telecom - SoftBank - Swisscom - Telcel - Telefonica - Telstra - TIM Italy - TMN - T-Mobile - Turkcell - Verizon US - VHA - Vivo - Vodacom - Zain Sudan For more information visit http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/mzqqm2/mno_kpi
