Air Force Chief: 'We Stand Between the Sheep and the Wolves'
The U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff used a sheep and wolf metaphor while explaining the role of the Air Force to a town hall that was broadcast on Facebook.
Gen. David L. Goldfein said that the world can be divided into three camps: sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs.
He asked the audience to close their eyes and think about what was on the minds of their families and people in their hometowns.
"I think the answer you'd probably give me is, they're worried about the economy, jobs, schools, church, grounds, right? All those things that make up America."
And then there are the wolves.
"We saw them on 9/11," Goldfein said. "We saw them in Nice. We see them occasionally, and what we know without question - although we wish it weren't so - is that evil exists in the world. And if they could have gone after more of us they would have."
And finally, there are the sheepdogs.
"And that's you and me. And we stand between the sheep and the wolves."
