The education system is broken
State of Michigan just hired a friend of mine as the Detroit Public School System Czar. With the power to summary Fire Teachers on the spot
However the problem's are bigger than that. Common Core, School of Choice, K-12, Private School and Home School are not the answer.
The culture is the biggest problem. That requires a multitude of fixes including spiritual. Everyone learns differently also. So one size doesn't fit all and without checks and balances it all fails. The SAT and ACT pass/fail isn't nor should be a grading point for success.
You can't have mega schools with 2000-3000 students in them and make it work. Teacher get lost and students get lost in the system. You can't have teacher and students with agenda's other than teaching and you can't have teachers taking on 20-30 students in a class.
Lets say you have 1800 students in a High School class size of 18. Then you need 100 teachers and those 100 teacher need to be personally responsible for there 18 kids in and out of school as a mentor. Then to add to that you need 1 aid per teacher. It's a number's problem also with budgets and teacher unions. Union see more money on the table then they are quick to take it off the table.
There are simply to many important jobs out there to let unions dictate the out come nor can you let bad teachers and or bad students or parents dictate the outcome.
